I just received the death certificate of Ivry Scott whose Jan 11, 1969 Los Angeles, California death record that I found at ancestry.com. I suspected that it was my Great Grandfather Ivory Scott's because of Louisiana being birthplace and Lilly as mother's maiden name.
It's definitely that of my Great Grandfather Ivory Scott. His daughter Florence Dawson is the informant on his death certificate, and she is also the informant on my father Lawrence Nolan Scott's August 15, 1993 death certificate which showed that he died of Dilated Cardiomyopathy with significant conditions contributing to death that include fatty liver, Nortripyline effect, and probably hyperthermia. Aunt Florence's Los Angeles addresses on Great Grandpa Ivory's death certificate and my father's certificate are the same. I used Florence's information on my father's death certificate to find out who was the father of my paternal grandfather Nolan Scott. I had recently found out that he was born to a single teenage mother named Carrie Johnson in Thibodaux, Lafourche Parish, Louisiana. Great Grandma Carrie was born in 1895 in Lafourche Parish to Harvey Johnson and his wife Rosanna. She died on March 11, 1948 in New Orleans from Hypertensive and arteriosclerotic heart disease and cerebral arteriosclerosis with encephalomacia. Grandpa Nolan was born on February 5, 1909 and died in New Orleans on January 31, 1944 from bilateral broncho pneumonia. My father Lawrence Nolan Scott was born in New Orleans on January 2, 1941. Therefore, my father was 3 years old when his father died and 7 years old when his paternal grandmother died. Grandpa Nolan was never married to my paternal grandmother Mary Alice Gaines who later married Willie Prince Simmons and gave birth to two other children Willie Prince Simmons Jr and Carrie Priscilla Simmons. Aunt Carrie was named after her paternal grandmother Carrie and maternal grandmother Priscilla Cross Gaines.
Great Grandpa Ivory lived to be old unlike his two older siblings Pinky and Matthew. According to the 1900 Census that showed that he was 8 years old, he was born around 1891. Therefore, he was around 78 years old when he died. I can't make out the cause of death written on death certificate.
Great Grandpa Ivory definitely relocated to Los Angeles from Thibodaux like some of his children did. My father relocated to Los Angeles from his birthplace New Orleans to join them. My mother told me that she met my father February of 1969 in my birthplace San Francisco. Therefore, my father met my mother just shortly after his paternal grandfather passed away. Great Grandpa Ivory was recorded as being widowed at the time of death, and so his longtime 2nd wife Dicey Wilson Scott died before he did. They married before 1918, and they had six children that included Wilson, Florence, Alberta, Odessa, Nolan, Clarence, Emannuel. He's buried in Lincoln Cemetery in Los Angeles. His first wife was Victoria Rhodes, but she died giving birth to their daughter Thelma who was born on January 2, 1912.
His mother name was recorded as being Miriah Lilly born in Louisiana, and that's correct. Marriah/ Marrian Scott mother was on his 1918/19 Army Transportation Records. Great Grandpa Ivory's older sister Pinky Scott Johnson's August 20, 1930 death certificate has mother as Maria Lilly born in Assumption Parish. Aunt Pinky died from typhoid fever at the age of 42.
What bugs me is that the father's information is all wrong. His father was recorded as being Tom Scott born in West Indies. I guess that's why my father told my mother that his father had roots in Jamaica. That's clearly wrong. His father was William Scott born in Assumption Parish, Louisiana. That was even on Great Grandpa Ivory's brother Matthew's June 28, 1922 death certificate. Uncle Matthew died of acute nephritis at the age of 31. I have seen Great Grandpa Ivory with his father William , mother Maria, and older siblings Matthew and Pinky with the last name Dag-- in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana in 1900 Census. I saw Uncle Matthew and 2nd Great Grandma Maria with the last name Scott living with head of household Pinky Johnson in Lafourche Parish in 1920 Census. I saw Aunt Pinky in the 1910 Census as the wife of Nazarie Johnson who was the oldest brother of Grandpa Nolan's mother Carrie Johnson. I saw my 2nd Great Grandparents William and Maria together with the last name Daigle in Lafourche Parish in 1910 Census.
At Familysearch center at the Mormon Church, I saw and got a printout of the marriage payment agreement/bond of my 2nd Great Grandparents William Scott and Maria Lilly. They married on January 11, 1888 in Thibodaux. Owen Caldwell signed with 2nd Great Grandpa William. He was one of 2nd Great Grandma Maria's maternal uncles. 2nd Great Grandma Maria's parents were Patrick Lilly and Margaret Caldwell, and they were recorded as being born in Louisiana. The Lilly family was listed right after the Caldwell family in the 1870 Census, and 2nd Great Grandma Maria was an infant at the time. Robert Caldwell and Sarah Lewis were 3rd Great Grandma Margaret and Owen's parents. Robert Caldwell was recorded as being born in North Carolina, and Sarah was recorded as being born in Tennessee. Nelly Lewis was living with the Lilly family at the time of the 1870 Census. She was living with the Caldwell family at the time of the 1880 Census, and she was recorded as being 3rd Great Grandpa Robert's mother-in-law. Nelly was also the name of 2nd Great Grandma Maria's younger sisters according to the 1880 Census. 4th Great Grandma Nelly was recorded as being born in North Carolina.
AncestryDNA Confirmation of Carrie Johnson's son Nolan Scott being my Paternal Grandfather
