I was trying to look for any information about my 2nd Great Grandparents William and Maria Scott. I found an African American couple William and Maria Daigle living in Lafourche Parish in the 1910 Census which showed that Maria gave birth to three children that were still living at the time but not in the household. I am wondering if this was the same couple as my 2nd Great Grandparents recorded as William and Maria Dagar (mis-transcribed as Kagen) in 1900 Census and whose children were recorded as being Pinkey, Matthews, and Ivory. The 1900 Census shows that 2nd Great Grandma Maria was a mother of four children with three of them living. My 1 year old paternal grandfather Nolan was shown to have the last name Scott in 1910 Census living with his single mother Carrie Johnson in the household headed by his maternal grandmother Rosanna (Hester) Johnson who was the widow of Harvey Johnson, but I found none of his relatives with the last name Scott in the 1910 Census.
I couldn't find William and Maria Daigle in the 1900 Census nor the 1920 Census and later Censuses. I couldn't find Great Grandpa Ivory nor his brother Matthews in 1910 Census, but I found their sister Pinkey and that she was married to Nazary Johnson who was Great Grandma Carrie's oldest brother. They were recorded as being married for 4 years. Aunt Pinkey was recorded as being mother of a child that no longer lived. According to the 1920 Census, Pinkey (mis-transcribed as Pensley) Johnson was a widow living with her brother Matthews Scott, her sister-in-law Nellie Scott, her nephews Robert Scott and Freddie Scott, and her widow mother Maria Scott. The 1920 Census is the only Census that shows Uncle Matthews and 2nd Great Grandma Maria recorded as having the last name Scott. I found no Census records of 2nd Great Grandpa William having the last name Scott. Marriah/Marrian Scott with the relationship of mother was listed on Great Grandpa Ivory's 1918 and 1919 Army Transportation Records. Freddie Scott's 1940 World War 2 Draft Registration card has Ivy Scott listed as the one to always know his address with the relationship of Uncle.
Because of the William Daigle found with his wife Maria in the 1910 Census that seems to be the same William Daigle who was shown living with his parents William and Marianne Daigle in Assumption Parish, Louisiana at the time of the 1870 Census, I am now uncertain about Hannah (Hawkins) Daigre's son William Daigre being Great Grandpa Ivory's father. I found no records of Hannah's son after 1880 though. I disconnected Hannah and her relatives from 2nd Great Grandpa William in my ancestry.com family tree. I have told all to the descendant of William Daigre's brother Paul Alfred Daigre. Even though I may not be related to him, I am glad that I was able to give him information that showed that his ancestor Paul Daigre was Paul Alfred Daigre and who his family were.
I became uncertain about David Matthews and Matilda Brown's daughter Maria Matthews was Great Grandpa Ivory's mother. Having a son with the first name Matthews doesn't necessarily mean that the mother's maiden name was Matthews. I found other men with the first name Matthews having no mother with the maiden name Matthews. Some are even named after their maternal grandfathers that have the first name Matthew. I disconnected David and Matilda and their relatives from 2nd Great Grandma Maria in my ancestry.com family tree. Afterwards, I found out that Patrick Lilly and Margaret Caldwell were her parents. 2nd Great Grandma Maria's sister Elizabeth aka Betty was recorded as being mulatto in 1910 Census, and so they had some European American ancestry. 1880 Census Records show that my paternal grandmother Mary Alice Gaines' Gaines family and Riley family were neighbors of Grandpa Nolan's Lilly family. I already knew that Grandma Mary's father Lawrence Gaines was born in Napoleonville, Assumption Parish and that his parents Willis and Jennette (Riley) Gaines and maternal grandparents Edward and Daurtyand Riley lived there. I can't find my Riley and Gaines families in 1870 Census, and so I am wondering if there were name changes which often occurred in families that were freed after slavery. The families shared first names in common. Great Grandpa Lawrence had siblings named Pinkie, Alberta, and Clarence. One of Clarence's sons was named Ivory. Grandpa Nolan had paternal half siblings named Alberta and Clarence.
I wonder how my paternal grandparents met. They were born and raised in different parishes in Southern Louisiana. Grandma Mary was born in St Mary Parish like her mother Priscilla Cross and maternal grandmother Mary Johnson were. Great Grandma Priscilla's father James Cross was born in Lafourche Parish like his maternal half siblings, his father, and his paternal aunts and uncles were. His mother Laura Ann was an African American slave born in Virginia and was the wife of Bonnie Barrow (originally Chas Boney and mistakenly recorded as being white in 1870 Census) who was a slave born in Louisiana, and some of their children were older than 2nd Great Grandpa James. Less than two weeks ago, I recently connected with a granddaughter of 2nd Great Grandpa James' younger maternal half brother Charles Valentine Barrow, and she told me that the Barrow family was mixed African, European, and Choctaw. She also told me that 3rd Great Grandma Laura migrated to Sherrida Indian Reservation. 2nd Great Grandpa James' father James P. Cross was a European American son of English American Benjamin Cross who was born in Gates County, North Carolina and 3/4 Acadian Anastasia Bourgeois who was born in Assumption Parish. My 4th Great Grandfather Benjamin owned the Orange Grove Plantation in Lafourche Parish, and he died in 1849. According to 1850 Slave Schedule, my 4th Great Grandmother Anastasia had 39 slaves. Anastasia died in 1855, and the Orange Grove Plantation was sold off instead of being passed down to any of Benjamin and Anastasia's children. 2nd Great Grandpa James' paternal aunt Priscilla was married to Charles M. Gillis who owned a sugar plantation in Lafourche Parish. According to 1860 Slave Schedule, he had 100 slaves.
The only known French ancestry that my father had was the Acadian ancestry from his 3rd Great Grandmother Anastasia. Her father Michel Jerome Bourgeois Jr. was born in St. James Parish, Louisiana to expelled Acadians Michel Jerome Bourgeois Sr. and Anne Landry. Her maternal grandmother Marie Desiree Stebens was born in an Acadian refugee camp in Chantenay, France and was the daughter of Marie Babin who was born in an Acadian prison camp in Southampton, England to Acadians Simon Babin and Anastasie Terriot. Marie Desiree Stebens' father Louis William Stebens was not an Acadian. He was son of Stanislas Stebens and Anne Scalsen. I am sure that all of my paternal 3rd great grandparents were African American slaves in Louisiana except for my 3rd Great Grandfather James, and some of them were born in other southern states. I am very curious about the European American Ordogne family who had some Acadian ancestry. They were so close to my African American Scott family since at least 1920 that Harry Ordogne was listed on Great Grandpa Ivory's 1942 World War 2 Draft Registration Record as the person that would always know his address when he wasn't living with his wife Dicey and their children at the time of registration. I wonder if my Scott family were related to the Ordogne family. Great Grandpa Ivory and Dicey seemed to have been separated. He wasn't shown living with Dicey and their children in the 1940 Census, and I didn't find him in the 1940 Census. He was shown living with Dicey and their children in the 1950 Census.

1910 Census
Police Jury Ward 2, Lafourche Parish, Louisiana
William Daigle age 44 black born in Louisiana with father born in District of Columbia and mother born in Louisiana
Maria Daigle age 40 black born in Louisiana with both parents born in Louisiana
If this couple were Great Grandpa Ivory's parents, then his paternal grandfather was an African American slave born in District of Columbia and his other three grandparents were African American slaves born in Louisiana.
William Daigle's father wasn't a descendant of a Acadian Daigle/Daigre families nor any other Acadian family. His last name was highly likely to be just the last name of his Acadian owner. My Y DNA haplogroup E-BY101982 is completely different from Acadian Daigre/Daigle family progenitor Olivier Daigre's Y DNA haplogroup R-BY107022, and so my male line is different from that of the Acadian Daigle/Daigre men.

I searched the family in 1870 Census, but I couldn't find them in Lafourche Parish.
This family was living in Assumption Parish which is the parish that Great Grandpa Ivory has for his birthplace on his World War 1 and 2 Draft Registration Cards, but I have come to the conclusion that he was actually born in Lafourche Parish.
The head of household William Daigle has District of Columbia as his birthplace like William Daigle has for his father in 1910 Census. He was mistakenly recorded as being white.

January 11, 1888 Marriage record of Maria Lilly and William Scott.
I am puzzled to see that Maria Lilly and my 2nd Great Grandma Maria are one and the same.
The 1900 Census shows that my 2nd Great Grandparents and their children Pinkey, Matthews, and Ivory were recorded as having the last name Dagar which was mis-transcribed as Kagen. They were living in Lafourche Parish. The 1900 Census record is how I discovered the first name of Great Grandpa Ivory's father and that he had older siblings Pinkey and Matthew.
The 1920 Census shows that Pinkey Johnson as a widow head of household in Lafourche Parish with her brother Matthews, his wife Nellie and their sons Robert and Freddie, and their widowed mother Maria all having the last name Scott.
The 1910 Census shows a couple William and Maria Daigle in Lafourche Parish and that they had 3 living children that are not living with them.
William Daigle is recorded as being born in Louisiana with father born in District of Columbia and mother born in Louisiana. Maria Daigle is recorded as being born in Louisiana with both parents born in Louisiana.
I am not sure what was 2nd Great Grandpa William's birth last name.

father listed as Pat Lily with birthplace unknown
mother listed as Margaret Caldwell with Assumption Parish as birthplace
