Connection Between My St. Mary Parish Cross family And The Lafourche Parish Cross Family

I have been looking into a connection between my St. Mary Parish Cross Family and The Lafourche Family. I was born and raised in California.  I was born in San Francisco where my parents met.  I grew up not knowing my African America father Lawrence Nolan Scott nor his side of the family. He left when I was a baby after my mother relocated to Sacramento where she was from. I found my father on Social Security Death Record index on New Year's Eve of 2002/2003. He had died in August 1993. I grew up being told by my mother that my father was from New Orleans, Louisiana and that his mother was a Creole with some French ancestry. She told me that he used French words in his every day language. He pretty grew up as a Creole. After getting my father's birth certificate, I learned that he was born on January 2, 1941 in New Orleans and that his parents' names were Lawrence Nolan Scott and Alice Gaines and that they were born in Louisiana. My mother had told me that my paternal gran

Mystery of My Paternal 2nd Great Grandfather James Cross' African American Mother Solved

I have been trying to find out the name of my paternal grandmother's maternal grandfather James Cross' African American mother who bore him with a European American man who was one of the sons of English American plantation/slaveowner Benjamin Cross of Gates County, North Carolina and his 3/4 Acadian wife Anastasia Bourgeois of Assumption Parish, Louisiana. Benjamin and Anastasia lived in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana. I was told by my Aunt Carrie that James was a European American man. She thought he looked like one in a wall portrait. I was puzzled by what she told me because he was listed as black on all Censuses.  He and his wife Mary Johnson were the parents of my paternal grandmother's mother Priscilla.  1880 US Census shows James and Mary living with their children Louise, Laura, and Mary . All are recorded as being born in Louisiana.  They were living in St. Mary Parish, Louisiana. 1900 US Record shows James and Mary living with their children James Jr, Joseph, Eliz

My Cape Verdean Ancestors

I was checking out information about my maternal grandfather's Cape Verdean ancestors. My maternal grandfather's father's name was Peter Andrade whose last name was changed to Andrews.  He was married to my maternal grandfather's mother Marion Isabelle Ocacio who was the daughter of Puerto Rican Jose 'Joseph' Ocacio and Hawaiian born daughter of Madeiran immigrants Maria Pereira de Jesus.  According to 1940 US Census, they were living in Sacramento, California.  Their race is recorded as white. He was the son of Denis Andrade and Dominga Gomes who also were the parents of John and Louisa.  According to 1910 US  Census, they were living in Hawaii.  Their race was recorded as Portuguese.  Peter and his siblings were recorded as being born in California. Denis and Dominga were recorded as being born in Portugal. Denis and Dominga divorced.  Dominga was remarried to August Cardoza, and they had a daughter named Lucille.  There is a 1930 US Census Record of Peter l
