New Information About My Paternal Great Grandmother Carrie Johnson's Family

More than a half a year ago, I learned that my paternal grandfather Nolan Scott was the son of Ivory Scott and Carrie Johnson. Great Grandma Carrie was one of the eleven children of Harvey Johnson and his wife Rosanna living in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana.  Grandpa Nolan's maternity was confirmed by my having two AncestryDNA matches that are descendants of Madison Rhodes and Maggie Williams who was the daughter of Great Grandma Carrie's oldest sister Maria Johnson and her husband Hudson Williams.  There is a 1930 Census Record of 2nd Great Grandma Rosanna living with Hudson and Maria. My cousins didn't know who was Aunt Maria's father.

I learned that Grandpa Nolan was the son of a single teenage mother. After re-ordering and getting my father Lawrence Nolan Scott's death certificate, I learned that the informant was his aunt Florence Dawson. I used Aunt Florence's information to find out that Ivory Scott was Grandpa Nolan's father.  Grandpa Nolan was Great Grandma Carrie's only child, but he had ten younger paternal halfsiblings. Great Grandpa Ivory had a daughter with his first wife Victoria Rhodes who was Madison Rhodes' sister, and  he had nine children with his longtime second wife Dicey Wilson.  He had an older sister named Pinky who was married to Great Grandma Carrie's oldest brother Nazareth, but they were divorced by the time of the 1920 Census.

Learning About My Scott Family of Lafourche Parish

https://diversegenes.blogspot.com/2023/02/learning-about-my-scott-family-of.html

Looking for information on 2nd Great Grandpa Harvey, I found a Harvey Johnson born around the same years in 1880 Census.

He was living with his father Henry, stepmother Mary Ann, adoptive brother Marshall Robinson, and stepbrothers Gabriel Burden and Claiborne Boston on the Drauzin Canciennes Plantation in Lafourche Parish.

I couldn't find the family in the 1870 Census. I do not know who was 2nd Great Grandpa Harvey's mother.

Looking for information on 2nd Great Grandma Rosanna,  I found a Rosanna Hester born around the same estimate years as 2nd Great Grandma Rosanna in 1870 and 1880 Censuses.

Rosanna's parents were Jordan  and Theresa.  Because of being born around the estimated years, growing up in Lafourche Parish,  having a sister named Virginia which was name of one of her oldest daughters, and a sister named Maggie which was name of one of her grand daughters, I came to the conclusion that 2nd Great Grandma Rosanna was Rosanna Hester.

I found my Great Grandaunt Maria's death record showing that her father was Harvey Johnson.

I found a marriage record of Roseana Hester married to Felix Ross which revealed to me that 2nd Great Grandma Rosanna was not Rosanna Hester.

I found Rosana Ross' death record that shows that she was the daughter of Jordan Hester and Theresa.  This is more proof that 2nd Great Grandma Rosanna was not Rosana Hester.

I found a death record of Rose Anna Johnson died in Thibodeaux, Lafourche, Louisiana in 1933 with husband named Howey Johnson, birthplace as Assumption, and mother named Lizzie Armstrong.

I immediately thought that this was my 2nd Great Grandmother Rosanna's death record.

I suspected that Howey was actually Harvey wrongly transcribed.

I ordered and got a copy of Rose Anna Johnson's death certificate.  It shows that her husband was Harvey Johnson.  Her birthplace was recorded as being Assumption which is the name of a parish in Southern Louisiana. Her father was recorded as being unknown, and her mother was recorded as being Lizzie Armstrong born in Assumption.  The informant on her death certificate is her son-in-law Hudson Williams, and that's what I was hoping to see as informant on her death certificate. I am very sure that this is 2nd Great Grandma Rosanna's death certificate.

Hudson Williams is also the informant on Great Grandpa Ivory's older brother Matthew's death certificate and their mother Maria Lilly Scott's death certificate.

I was surprised that I got 2nd Great Grandma Rosanna's obituary and not just a copy of  her death certificate.  It shows that she was a devout Christian member of Moses Baptist Church and she is buried at the cemetery there. I suspect that Grandpa Nolan and Great Grandma Carrie are buried there too.  Their death certificates showed that they were buried in Thibodaux, but there was no mention of the cemetery.  The Moses Baptist Church is located in Thibodaux.

My Paternal Grandmother's Descent from Swiss Kinsey Family Through A Branch of The Family That Had African Ancestry

Last year, I learned that my paternal grandmother Mary Alice Gaines descended from a Kinsey family that immigrated to New Bern, Craven County, North Carolina from Switzerland in 1710. She descended from John Ripley Kinsey who was born in 1693 in Switzerland.  He was one of the few of the Kinsey family that survived the Massacre of 1710 by The Tuscarora Indigenous Americans. The Kinseys were not the ancestors of Grandma Mary's maternal grandfather's European American father James P. Cross who was the son of  English American plantation owner Benjamin Cross who was born in Gates County, North Carolina and 3/4 Acadian woman Anastasia Bourgeois who was born in Assumption Parish in the Acadiana region in Southern Louisiana.  They had to be the ancestors of one of Grandma Mary's African American great grandparents.  All of them were slaves in the Acadiana region.   The only one of Grandma Mary's great grandparents that was recorded as being born in the Carolinas ...

Learning About My Paternal 2nd Great Grandmother Mary's Family And Their Connection To the Kinseys

I learned that the Kinseys were ancestors of my paternal grandmother Mary Alice Gaines' maternal grandmother Mary.  I found out that some of AncestryDNA that Aunt Carrie and I have are descendants of 2nd Great Grandma Mary's niece Susan Thomas. They have Kinsey descendant matches that they share with Aunt Carrie and me.  I found out that Grandma Mary Alice Gaines descended from a Swiss Kinsey family that immigrated to New Bern, Craven County, North Carolina in 1710. Their descendants.went to Jones County, North Carolina and Colleton and Barnwell Counties in South Carolina. Aunt Carrie has over 100 AncestryDNA matches that are descendants of this Swiss Kinsey family.  They're descendants of John Ripley Kinsey (b. 1698) and Mary Isler. She, two European American Kinsey descendants, and a man in Switzerland match each other in the same location on Chromosome 6. https://diversegenes.blogspot.com/2023/07/discovery-of-swiss-immigrant-ancestors.html I found out that Grandma Mary...
