My Paternal 2nd Great Grandmother Maria's family

I figured out my paternal 2nd Great Grandmother Maria's family.

I suspected that Great Grandpa Ivory's older brother's first name Matthews might be their mother Maria's maiden name.

Census Records shows Ivory Scott's mother Maria's parents were David Matthews and Matilda Brown. They were married on December 24, 1872 in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana.  Both were born in Louisiana.

Their children in chronological order were Walter, Maria, Cordelia, Thomas Hamilton, Jordan David, George, Lucy, Charles, and Andrew.

2nd Great Grandpa David's parents were Jesse Matthews who was born in Mississippi and Maria who was born in Georgia.

1910 Census shows Uncle Walter living as a widow in Morehouse Parish, Louisiana with his sons Jade, Alonzia, and Ivory. He was working as a farmer.  All were recorded as being mulatto.

1910 Census shows that my 3rd Great Grandparents David and Matilda were living on the Acadia plantation in Lafourche Parish. Their grandson Morris Robichaux was staying with them.

3rd Great Grandpa David's death record shows that he died on June 19, 1917 in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana.

1920 Census shows 3rd Great Grandma Matilda had an older sister Patsy whose married name is Smith.

3rd Great Grandma Matilda and her granddaughter Irma were recorded twice in the 1920 Census.  She and Irma were also staying with her granddaughter Matilda, Matilda's husband Louis Johnson, and their son Matter and daughter Victoria.

3rd Great Grandma Matilda's death record shows that she died on May 28, 1927 in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana.

1910 Census shows Aunt Patsy was living with Aunt Cordelia, her husband Henry Smith, and their sons Archibald and Virgil.   Cordelia was a public school teacher. All were recorded as being mulatto.

The next family recorded was Aunt Lucy, her husband John Smith, and her sons Clarence Robichard and Morris Robichard. Aunt Lucy had given birth to three children.  Therefore, one of them died. Aunt Lucy and her sons were recorded as being mulatto, and her husband John was recorded as being black. Morris was recorded twice in the 1910 Census.

My 3rd Great Grandaunt Patsy, my 2nd Great Grandaunt Cordelia, my 2nd Great Grandaunt Lucy, and my 2nd Great Granduncle Walter being recorded as mulatto in 1910 Census shows that there was European American ancestry on 3rd Great Grandma Matilda and her sister Patsy's side of the family.

1920 Census shows that the Williams family changed their last name to Washington.   Aunt Cordelia worked as a high school teacher.

The change of last name was a bit of a surprise to me.  This is more recent than my Daigre family changing their last name to Scott some time between 1900 and 1910.

Discovery of Great Grandpa Ivory's last name Scott was changed from Daigre and the identity of his father William and his siblings Pinky and Matthews and other relatives

Aunt Cordelia wasn't the only school teacher in the family.  1910 Census shows that Uncle Thomas was a school teacher too.

He was living with his wife Philomene and their son Oscar and their daughter Luella.

1920 Census shows Uncle Thomas worked as a SP Engine Watchman.  He is living with his wife Philomene and their children with new additions daughters Isabella and Stella, sons Thomas and Wilson.

1930 Census shows Uncle Thomas working as railroad laborer.  He is living with his wife Philomene and their children with new additions daughters Rose, Cleordia, Gaynel.

Uncle Thomas' World War 1 Draft Registration card shows that his full name was Thomas Hamilton Matthews and that he was born on February 3, 1876. His wife Philomene is listed as his nearest relative.

Uncle Thomas' death certificate shows that he died on March 15, 1933 in Houston, Texas of heart disease.  His wife Philomene was the informant.  I don't know why he was in Houston.  He was still married.

1920 Census shows Uncle Jordan living in New Orleans with his wife Lula, and their son Jordan and daughter Liza.

There is a sister Myria Gainer and son Walter Gainer.  He had his own restaurant business.

Uncle Jordan's World War 1 Draft Registration that shows that his full name is Jordan David Matthews and that he was born on January 26, 1878.  He worked as a cook before he had his own restaurant business.  His wife, Lula is listed as nearest relative.

3rd Great Grandpa David's parents were Jesse Matthews and Mariah.

Jesse was shown to be the name of one of his grandsons.

He named his first born daughter/my 2nd Great Grandmother after his mother whose name was spelled Maria in the 1880 Census.

My 2nd Great Grandmother's name was spelled Marriah on one of Great Grandpa Ivory's Army Transportation Records.

He named his sons Geo and Chas after his brothers George and Charles.

I don't know who 3rd Great Grandma Matilda's parents were.  Some family trees have her parents as Nathan Brown and Maria, but they don't have any record that shows that they were her parents.  Therefore, I left her parents blank.

I mailed off applications/check for four death certificates.

I ordered death certificates of my 3rd Great Grandparents David Matthews and Matilda Brown as well as Matilda's sister Patsy.

I already ordered Uncle Matthew's death certificate before I found out 2nd Great Grandma Maria's family.

I am hoping 3rd Great Grandpa David's death certificate lists his mother's maiden name.

I am hoping that 3rd Great Grandma Matilda and her sister Patsy's death certificates list their parents' names.

I also ordered my 3rd Great Grandfather Edward Riley's death certificate.  He was our paternal grandmother Mary Alice Gaines' paternal grandmother's father born in South Carolina and lived the rest of his life in Napoleonville, Assumption Parish, Louisiana.

I hoping that his death certificate lists his parents' names.
