MyTrueAncestry and Eurogenes K15 of Multi-Continentally Mixed People - My Mother and Me

Somebody told me that MyTrueAncestry's algorighm is based on Eurogenes K15 which I am very familiar with. I have used GEDmatch for over 12 years. I have done all the admixture/oracle analyses which do include Eurogenes K15. I also have been working with chromosome browser to examine matching segments with DNA relative matches and looked at chromosome paintings.

Over the 12 years that I have done Genetic Genealogy, I have grown to take ethnic analyses with a strong grain of salt and focus mainly on DNA relative matches.

Genealogical family lines

Because of the Transatlantic Slave trade, I don't know anything about my Sub Saharan African ancestry, but I am sure that it's mainly from West and Central Africa. Most of the Sub Saharan African slaves were brought from West and Central Africa. Africa has over 3,000 ethnic groups, and that includes Nigeria having over 400 ethnic groups. My Sub Saharan African ancestry is highly likely to consist of many Sub Saharan African ethnic groups. I have some Indigenous  American segments on my paternal chromosomes and not just my maternal chromosomes and X Chromosome, but I don't know what kind of Indigenous American ancestry that I have on my father's side. I also have some Malagasy ancestry on my father's side.

 My 23andme Chromosome Painting

my DNA is phased due to my mother having tested

top chromosomes are maternal and bottom chromosomes are paternal

Even though I am around an even mix of Sub Saharan African, European, My Ancient Samples and Deep Dives are over 99 percent African.  They make me look like I am a full-blooded modern Sub Saharan African.

All of my closest genetic populations are African except for the last three which are Spanish and Portuguese which are part of my Cape Verdean, Puerto Rican, and Madeiran ancestry from my maternal grandfather.  At 42.1,  my closest genetic population Northeast Bantu is far too genetically distant from me which is a sign of somebody that is heavily admixed with non-African ancestry which shows in my Mixed Mode Populations as Portuguese, Spanish, and French which are part of my European ancestry.

MyTrueAncestry Ancient Sample Breakdown seem to be reflecting my closest genetic populations which are very genetically distant from me.

My Mother's 23andme Chromosome Painting

Even though my mother is around 1/8 Sub Saharan African, her Ancient Sample Breakdown is all West Eurasian and her Deep Dive Breakdowns are over 96 percent West Eurasian.  They make her look like a full-blooded modern European.

All of my mother's closest genetic populations are European. At 14.76, her closest population Portuguese is too genetically distant from her which suggests non-European ancestry which shows in her Mixed Mode Populations. Portuguese and Spanish are part of her Cape Verdean, Puerto Rican, and Madeiran ancestry from her father.  German and Dutch are part of her maternal grandfather's ancestry. Romanian may be part of her Ashkenazi Jewish maternal grandmother's father who was born in Romania.

Her MyTrueAncestry Ancient Sample Breakdown seem to be reflecting her closest genetic populations which are genetically distant from her.

I wouldn't recommend MyTrueAncestry to people that are significantly mixed Sub Saharan African, European like myself unless you have a parent with ancestry that is predominantly European like my mother.  Then you can can just check your predominantly European parent's Ancient Samples and Deep Dives to learn about your own ancient/medieval ancestry. After all, your parent's ancestry is also your ancestry.  That's what I have to do.

I would like to see Ancient Samples based on the actual ancient/medieval ancestry detected on one's chromosomes.

The Many Ethnic Groups and Languages of Africa - The Most Diverse Continent

This is a blog post about the ethnic groups of Africa which is a continent that consists of over 50 countries and has thousands of ethnic groups. What I have noticed about ethnic groups is that there no clear definition of what they are.  That's what I am noticing in countries in general. In regards to Africa,  I am seeing names of specific ethnic groups like Wolof, Mandinka, Fulani being listed for certain countries, and those ethnic groups are in multiple countries.  I am also seeing nationalities being listed for ethnic groups like Somali for Djibouti. I am seeing the continental backgrounds like African, European for Cabo Verde which is where my maternal grandfather's paternal grandparents immigrated to USA from when it was still a Portuguese colony. Of course, there is stuff like Bantu, Berbers, Arabs for ethnic groups I see color race names listed for ethnic groups like White for Saint Helena, Ascension, and Tristan da Cunha. The color race names make no sense any w...

My Paternal Grandmother's Descent from Swiss Kinsey Family Through A Branch of The Family That Had African Ancestry

Last year, I learned that my paternal grandmother Mary Alice Gaines descended from a Kinsey family that immigrated to New Bern, Craven County, North Carolina from Switzerland in 1710. She descended from John Ripley Kinsey who was born in 1693 in Switzerland.  He was one of the few of the Kinsey family that survived the Massacre of 1710 by The Tuscarora Indigenous Americans. The Kinseys were not the ancestors of Grandma Mary's maternal grandfather's European American father James P. Cross who was the son of  English American plantation owner Benjamin Cross who was born in Gates County, North Carolina and 3/4 Acadian woman Anastasia Bourgeois who was born in Assumption Parish in the Acadiana region in Southern Louisiana.  They had to be the ancestors of one of Grandma Mary's African American great grandparents.  All of them were slaves in the Acadiana region.   The only one of Grandma Mary's great grandparents that was recorded as being born in the Carolinas ...
