Ancestral Genomics: African American Health in The Age of Precision Medicine

I have developed a strong interest in Population Genetics and Evolutionary Genomics. I have grown to have the view of race as a social construct that has no biological basis. I am also looking into Scientific Racism.  I got a kindle version of the book 'Ancestral Genomics: African American Health in the Age of Precision Medicine' by Constance B. Hilliard.  according to Amazon.com A leading evolutionary historian offers a radical solution to racial health disparities in the United States. Constance B. Hilliard was living in Japan when she began experiencing joint pain. Her doctor diagnosed osteoarthritis―a common ailment for someone her age. But her bloodwork showed something else: Hilliard, who had never had kidney problems, appeared to be suffering from renal failure. When she returned to Texas, however, a new round of tests showed that her kidneys were healthy. Unlike the Japanese doctor, her American primary care provider had checked a box on her lab report for “African Amer

Genetics Of Rh-Negative Blood And The Basques

This is a blog post about people with Rh negative blood. I grew up being very interested in Rh negative group.  My mother had told me that I had rare blood and that I was Rh negative.  After I joined the navy at the age of 19 in 1991, I got my dog tags which revealed that my blood type is O positive. My mother was wrong about me having Rh-negative blood. My genetic testing results also shows that my blood type is positive blood.  I've been wondering what made her think that I had rare blood and that it was Rh negative.   The Rh blood group system is a human blood group system. It contains proteins on the surface of red blood cells. After the ABO blood group system, it is the most likely to be involved in transfusion reactions. The Rh blood group system consisted of 49 defined blood group antigens in 2005. As of 2023, there are over 50 antigens among which the five antigens D, C, c, E, and e are the most important. There is no d antigen.  RHD (Rh Blood Group D Antigen) and RHCE (R

LM Genetics K3, K4, K5, K12, K15, K16, K47 Admixture Analyses of Me, My Mother, My Paternal Aunt

I ran LM Genetics Admixture Analyses on my 23andme genomic data, my mother's 23andme genomic data, and my paternal aunt's 23andme genomic data with the use of DNA Genics Admixture Studio.  The components are ancient populations.  What are Admixture Calculators and how do they work? What is an Admixture Calculator? An admixture calculator, often referred to as a GEDmatch calculator, is a tool used in genetic ancestry analysis. It processes raw genetic data obtained from DNA testing services and provides a detailed breakdown of an individual's ancestry. By comparing a person's genetic information to reference populations from various parts of the world, admixture calculators estimate the proportion of ancestry derived from different ethnic and geographic groups. These tools are popular among individuals seeking to understand their ancestral origins and the diverse genetic makeup contributing to their heritage. Admixture calculators can reveal connections to ancient popula
